Eco-hotel's ecological garden

Our garden has been organic since 2009 and is irrigated with recycled, mineral-rich water. It's one of our guests' favorite spots, a tranquil environment filled with peace, tropical plants, and birds that invite relaxation and a connection with nature.

Our ecological initiatives

Use of renewable energy

Renewable energy with solar panels

In 2019, we installed solar panels at the hotel to generate clean energy and reduce our electricity consumption. Under optimal conditions, the solar system produces approximately 16,080 kWh per year , representing a significant saving in conventional energy. Thanks to this renewable energy initiative, we avoid the emission of 11.09 tons of CO₂ , reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and caring for the environment.

Solar-powered water heaters

Since 2009, we have heated the water in the hotel with solar energy. The hot water is used in the guestroom showers, for laundry services, and in the kitchen of our green hotel. Previously, when we had fewer solar collectors, we had to lower our water consumption in the showers and washing machines due to lower capacity. We've since greatly expanded our ability to generate sustainable energy.

Solar clothes dryer

We harness solar energy with a solar clothes dryer, whose semi-transparent roof captures solar radiation and transforms it into thermal energy. This system allows clothes to be dried even during rainy weather, eliminating the need for electric dryers. Furthermore, its construction incorporates natural materials using bioconstruction techniques , reducing environmental impact and reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.

Energy efficiency

We implemented an energy efficiency plan to reduce electricity consumption before switching to renewable energy. Measures such as energy-efficient light bulbs and inverter air conditioners allow for energy savings of up to 50%.

Sustainable use of water

A new era of water recycling with Hydraloop

Green roof

A natural insulation system using plants that absorb solar heat and cool rooms , while also reducing noise, purifying the air, and attracting birds and butterflies. This installation helps mitigate the urban heat island effect and improves energy efficiency, reducing the need for air conditioning. It is a unique project developed by Don Bosco University in collaboration with specialists and winner of El Salvador's 2014 National Energy Award.

Fire Tree Hotel Filter

Biofilter for Grey Water Treatment

We implemented a natural filtration system using stones and plant roots to treat the greywater from the hotel laundry. The water is channeled to a bio-planter containing stones and heliconias, whose roots contribute to the purification process. The filtered water is reused for watering gardens and plants , reducing potable water consumption and strengthening our sustainability efforts.

Water conservation

In addition to treating the hotel's greywater, we have a comprehensive water conservation system . Showers with flow restrictors and low-flow toilets optimize water use. We encourage our guests to reuse towels , implement an efficient linen change schedule, and use water-efficient laundry and dishwashing equipment , significantly reducing water consumption.

Waste Management and Eco-friendly Products

We've eliminated plastic bottles in our guest rooms , preventing the use of over 5,000 water bottles per year, and we use soap and shampoo dispensers. We also separate our waste and submit it to the Recycle 503 program for recycling. Sulfate-free cleaning and laundry products reduce our environmental impact and reinforce our commitment to sustainability.

Composting

We've implemented composting to produce organic fertilizer for our gardens. Plant waste is placed in ventilated compartments with earthen floors and roofs to control humidity. After two months, the material transforms into organic fertilizer, which is returned to the garden, completing the natural cycle of sustainability.

Green Living With
Thermal Insulation

To maintain a cooler indoor temperature, the hotel features double-glazed insulated windows that reduce air conditioning loss and decrease outside noise.

In addition, walls and ceilings were treated with bioclimatic techniques developed in conjunction with Don Bosco University, achieving greater thermal comfort and a pleasant rest for our guests.

Eco Adventures: an educational video game

In 2015, Carolina Baiza , co-owner of the hotel, along with Rosa Meléndez and Francisco Soriano , won an international competition on sustainability sponsored by the German government and the Alexander von Humboldt University of Berlin .

The project gave rise to Eco Adventures, an educational video game created for at-risk children in El Salvador and distributed free of charge to public institutions and schools.
